Tree Trimming & Pruning in Columbus

Our pruning follows ANSI A300 Part 1: cuts are made back to a lateral or the branch collar, no flush cuts, no stubs, no topping. Topping a southern hardwood produces weak epicormic regrowth that fails in the next thunderstorm, which is why we will not do it even when asked.

Typical work orders are crown cleaning (deadwood, crossing limbs, hangers), crown raising for driveway and roofline clearance, selective reduction over a structure, and end-weight reduction on long horizontal oak limbs.

Front-yard street trees along Main Street and College Street get the bucket lift. Backyards behind fences get a climber on rope and saddle, or the tracked spider lift when the ground will not take a truck. Cranes are a removal tool, not a pruning tool, so you will not see one on a trim ticket.

Structural pruning is best in late winter dormancy, roughly December through February, when wound closure is fastest and the branch architecture is visible. Deadwood and hazard limbs come out any time of year. We avoid heavy oak pruning during peak sap flow and hold off on live oaks during oak wilt vector season where practical.
